Violin 올리비에 샤를리에 Olivier Charlier

14세의 나이에 이미 콩쿠르에 입상, 화려한 수상 경력을 쌓은 올리비에 샤를리에는 파리음악원에서 장 위보(실내악)와 피에르 도깡(바이올린) 문하에서 공부하였다. 그의 뛰어난 재능은 나디아 블랑제, 예후디 메뉴인 그리고 헨릭 쉐링과 같은 위대한 아티스트로부터 주목을 받았다. 

17세에 뮌헨 콩쿠르, 18세에 몬트리올 콩쿠르, 19세에 시벨리우스 콩쿠르에서 각각 입상한 후, 20세에 자크 티보와 SACEM 게오르게 에네스쿠상, 21세에 인디아나 폴리스 그리고 1989년 29세에는 영 콘서트 아티스트 오디션과 같은 가장 권위 있는 국제 바이올린 대회에서 수상의 영광을 안았다. 어린 나이부터 쌓은 경험을 바탕으로 한층 성숙한 그는 곧 자크 티보, 지네트 느뵈, 그리고 크리스티앙 페라스로 이어지는 프랑스 바이올린의 계보를 이어갈 수 있었다. 

올리비에 샤를리에는 프랑스 국립 오케스트라, 파리 오케스트라, 스위스 취리히 톤할레 오케스트라, 헤이그 필하모닉, 런던 필하모닉, BBC 필하모닉, 할레 오케스트라, 베를린 심포니, 함부르크 및 자르브뤼케 라디오 오케스트라, 뷔르템베르크 체임버 오케스트라, 몬테카를로 필, 프라하 필, 자그레브 필하모닉 오케스트라, 몬트리올 심포니, 요미우리 니혼 및 시드니 심포니 오케스트라를 포함한 많은 오케스트라와 솔리스트로 협연해왔다. 지난 시즌에는 미국, 캐나다, 멕시코, 일본, 말레이시아 그리고 태국 등지를 투어 했을 뿐 아니라, 샤를르 뒤트와의 지휘로 프랑스 국립 오케스트라와 남아프리카에서 협연하기도 했으며 프랑스, 영국, 독일, 네덜란드, 스위스 그리고 이탈리아를 포함한 유럽 전 지역에서 공연을 펼쳤다. 

음반 녹음 활동으로는 얀 파스칼 토르틀리에 지휘의 BBC 필하모닉과 녹음한 뒤티외 바이올린 협주곡 “L’arbre des songes”, 마티아스 바메르트 지휘의 BBC 심포니와 녹음한 로베르토 게르하르 협주곡은 모두 샨도스 레이블로 발매되어 1998년과 1999년 각각 프랑스 ‘음악의 승리’상에 노미네이션 된 바 있다. 또한 로렌스 포스터 지휘의 몬테 카를로 필하모닉과 멘델스존 협주곡(에라토)을 녹음했고, 장 자크 칸토로우 지휘의 파리 앙상블 오케스트라와 생상 바이올린 협주곡(EMI 프랑스)을 녹음했으며, 장 위보의 피아노 반주로 프랑스 작곡가 프랑크가 작곡한 소나타 모음집을 녹음해 선보이기도 했다. 현재 그는 파리음악원 교수로 후학 양성에 힘쓰고 있으며 생상, 피에르네와 비에른(에라토) 등의 음악을 녹음하는 등 활발한 활동을 이어가고 있다. 피아니스트 엠마뉘엘 슈트로세, 첼리스트 양성원과 함께 트리오 오원의 멤버로 한국과 프랑스에서 많은 활동을 하고 있다.

Already the first Prize winner at the age of 14, Olivier Charlier continued his studies at the Paris Conservatoire with Pierre Doukan (violin) and Jean Hubeau (chamber music).  His talent caught the attention of great artists such as Nadia Boulanger, Yehudi Menuhin and Henryk Szeryng.  Then Olivier won prizes at several international violin competitions: Munich, Montreal, Helsinki  Sibelius Competition, the Jacques Thibaud and the SACEM George Enesco Competitions (Paris), Indianapolis (USA), and at the Young Concert Artists International Audition in New York in 1989. 

As a soloist Olivier has given concerts with major orchestras including the Orchestre National de France, Orchestre de Paris, Zurich’s Tonhalle Orchestra, The Hague Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, Hallé Orchestra, CBSO, Berlin Symphony, Hamburg, Saarbrücken, Leipzig Radio Orchestras, Bruxelles, Monte Carlo, Prague, Zagreb, Budapest, New York, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Mexico, Tokyo, Sydney Orchestras…

Olivier pursues an active recording career which includes fine works such as the Dutilleux Violin Concerto “L’arbre des songes” with the BBC Philharmonic and Yan Pascal Tortelier, the Roberto Gerhard Concerto with the BBC Symphony conducted by Matthias Bamert (both for Chandos and both nominated for the French ‘Victoires de la Musique’ Awards in 1998 and 1999), Lalo Concertos,  the Mendelssohn Concertos with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic and Lawrence Foster (Erato), Saint-Saëns with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and Jean-Jacques Kantorow (EMI France), as well as a collection of sonatas with Jean Hubeau by the French composers Franck, Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Pierné and Vierne (Erato), sonatas by Schumann, Grieg and Beethoven with the pianist Brigitte Engerer (Harmonia Mundi).  In his last recording, he plays and conducts Mozart violin concertos n°3, 4 and 5 with the Prague Chamber Orchestra.

Olivier Charlier is teaching violin at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
