소피아 쿤수 두(2007년 12월생)는 자신이 음악으로 감동을 받았던 것처럼 다른 이들에게도 감동을 줄 수 있는 음악을 만들고 싶어하는 젊은 작곡가이다. 전통 선율을 기반으로 한 다채로운 선율을 통해 그녀의 작품은 청중에게 감동을 준다. 아름답고 특이하며 역동성으로 가득한 사운드를 만들어내는 그녀는 종종 비쥬얼 아트오아 시에서 영감을 받는 등 다양한 장르와 문화를 음악에 혼합한다.  

소피아는 현재 줄리어드 예비대학에서 다니엘 펠센펠드 교수를 사사하고 있다. 그녀는 4중주곡 “무의식적 입자의 춤(Dance of Unconscious Particles)”으로 2023 ASCAP 모튼 굴드 젊은 작곡가 상을 최연소로 수상했다. 또한 뉴욕 청소년 심포니 작곡 프로그램의 멤버로 루나 작곡 연구소에서 영예상도 수여받았다. 그녀의 작품은 그래미 수상자인 지휘자 데이비드 앨런 밀러와 리틀 오케스트라 소사이어티, 그래미 수상 경력의 뉴욕 유스 심포니 연주자들과 줄리어드 스쿨 연주자들에 의해 연주되었다. 소피아는 작곡 외에도 피아니스트, 바이올리니스트, 보컬리스트, 작가로도 활동하며, 그녀의 시 “희망”은 2022년 Burnham-On-Sea Book 페스티벌에서 11-15세 부분에서 상을 수상하기도 했다.

Sophia Kunxu Dou (b. Dec 2007) is a composer who aspires to write music that shares her emotions and moves others, the same way that she was moved by music. With colorful and folksong-driven melodies, her music brings the audience on an emotional journey. Creating a soundworld both beautiful and bizarre, and full of action. She is often inspired by visual art and poetry, and blends together music of different genres and cultures.

Sophia currently studies at Juilliard Pre-College with Dr. Daniel Felsenfeld. She is the youngest winner of the 2023 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards for her quartet “Dance of Unconscious Particles”. She is also a member of New York Youth Symphony Composition Program and has received honors from Luna Composition Lab (2022). Her works have been recognized and performed by Grammy-winning conductor David Alan Miller with the Little Orchestra Society, members of the Grammy-winning New York Youth Symphony, and members of The Juilliard School.

Aside from composition, she is also a pianist, violinist, vocalist and writer. Her poem “Hope” won the 2022 Burnham-On-Sea Book Festival for the 11-15 category.
